Because our soils are over-farmed and many of the fruits and vegetables in supermarkets contain herbicides and pesticides, the foods we eat contain very low levels of micronutrients. In these cases, it's best to eat organic.

But... what are vitamins?
Vitamins are a group of substances necessary for cellular function, growth, and proper development. There are 13 essential vitamins.
They are chemical substances that cannot be synthesized by the body and are present in small quantities in food, making them essential for life and our daily routine activities.
They are classified into: A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, C, D, E, Folic Acid, Biotin and K.
Within this list they are divided into water-soluble and fat-soluble.
Water-soluble vitamins are soluble in water. This means they are easily eliminated through urine. This category includes vitamins C and B1, B2, B3, B6, and B12. Generally, most people are able to consume sufficient amounts of water-soluble vitamins simply by eating a balanced diet (except for vegetarians and vegans, who must supplement with vitamin B12 or take nutritional yeast daily).
Fat-soluble vitamins, as their name suggests, dissolve in fat. These are stored in fatty tissues of the body, such as the liver or adipose tissue, and can therefore cause toxicity problems. Furthermore, they are more difficult to eliminate, so special care must be taken to avoid excessive intake. These include vitamins A, D, E, and F.
What kind of vitamins does our hair need?
Vitamins can be obtained through various foods, and their proper absorption has a direct impact on hair. Therefore, before we start stuffing ourselves with thousands of foods or vitamin supplements, we need to examine our liver: it's pointless to eat very healthy and take supplements if our liver isn't able to properly metabolize the nutrients.
Obviously, a plant-based, alkaline diet promotes good nutrient absorption by the body; even so, it's not a bad idea to check it from time to time, especially if you're experiencing some kind of discomfort.
Our hair needs a certain type of vitamins to grow healthy and strong:
- Vitamin A, found in mangoes, carrots, tomatoes...
- Vitamin B, found in kale, tempeh, brewer's yeast...
- Vitamin C, found in peppers, parsley, oranges...
- Vitamin E, found in Brazil nuts, almonds, spinach, broccoli...
- vitamin D, through daily but moderate exposure to the sun.
A vitamin B8 deficiency, for example, can cause baldness or hair loss. A vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to increased hair loss, dryness, and/or premature graying.
On the other hand, vitamin B3 stimulates hair growth and increases capillary circulation, while vitamin B6 produces melanin, giving color and life.
